Authorities Wednesday were investigating two fatal shootings in Wilmington that appear to be gang-related.

The first occurred around 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 1600 block of McDonald Avenue, where two male suspects walked up to a young man and shot him, said Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Division. Steven Alvarez, 19, of Carson died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.

The second shooting occurred about an hour later in the 1400 block of Marine Avenue, where a gunman shot a 20-year-old man, who died at the scene, Lopez said. His name was withheld, pending family notification.

Police said it was not immediately clear if the two shootings were related.
