A carjacking suspect who was being pursued by police ditched the stolen utility truck and ran across the Santa Monica (10) Freeway near South Los Angeles before being arrested Tuesday afternoon.

It’s unclear when the chase began, but it ended about 3:40 p.m. along the freeway near Hoover Street, according to Officer Sal Ramirez of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The pursuit and apprehension of the suspect, whose name was not immediately released, prompted a brief closure of all westbound lanes of the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A report from the scene showed the utility truck facing the wrong way on the Hoover Street off-ramp from the westbound 10.
