A wrongful death/negligence lawsuit was filed Thursday against the owners of a Granada Hills home where a rapper died in a shooting at a pool party last summer.
The suit was brought on behalf of the 4-year-old daughter of Justin Clark Lishey, who was professionally known as Kid Cali or Cali OSo.
The 30-year-old performer was shot about 9 p.m. last Aug. 20 in the 12400 block of Longacre Avenue at a party that had been heavily promoted on social media and through fliers. The Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit names as defendants Ambrose Augustt and Edith Kafui Augustt, and alleges they hosted the “Summer 16 Millions of Models Mansion Pool Party” at their home and used social media to solicit people to attend without ensuring there was proper security.
The Augustts could not be immediately reached for comment.
Partygoers were charged $20 to $50 and no identification was required to enter or buy alcohol, the suit alleges.
Lishey was shot six times and died early the next morning at a hospital, according to the lawsuit. Two others were also shot at the gathering, the suit states.
City Councilman Mitchell Englander publicly stated in reference to the party that “residential neighborhoods are not the place for these types of gatherings,” the suit says.
