A bomb squad, as well as firefighters and paramedics, spent about four hours Saturday at the UCLA campus investigating an unknown substance.

Police were dispatched about 9:30 a.m. to the 600 block of South Gayley Avenue, said Officer Rosario Herrera of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section.

The situation was declared safe at 1:20 p.m., Herrera said.

Firefighters and paramedics were sent to the location at 10:33 a.m., said Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Further details were not immediately available.
