A suspect who was believed to be armed barricaded himself in a residential building in the Beverly Grove area Wednesday.
Police were called about 4:20 p.m. to the scene in the 600 block of North Edinburgh Avenue, west of Fairfax Avenue and south of Melrose Avenue, according to Los Angeles police Officer Tony Im.

A woman and child who had possibly been held by the suspect exited the building about 7:30 p.m., according to police and reports from the scene.
Crisis negotiators and a SWAT team were called to the location and fire department personnel were staging nearby.
