Police Thursday arrested a suspect who was believed to have been armed while barricaded in a residential building in the Beverly Grove area of L.A.’s Fairfax district, authorities said.
The standoff began around at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, nearly 10 hours earlier than the arrest, when police were called to the 600 block of North Edinburgh Avenue, west of Fairfax Avenue and south of Melrose Avenue, said Los Angeles Police Officer Tony Im.
A woman and child who had possibly been held by the suspect exited the building about 7:30 p.m., according to police and reports from the scene.
Crisis negotiators and a SWAT team were called to the location and fire department personnel were staging nearby.
The suspect was taken into custody about 2 a.m., said Officer Liliana Preciado, but details of his arrest were not immediately released.
No injuries were immediately reported.
