Quietly watching TV turned out to be fatal for a 42-year-old man who was gunned down in his Compton garage early Friday in a gang-related killing.

Authorities were called to the 15600 block of South Visalia Avenue at 12:16 a.m.

Derrick Sinclair died at a hospital, the coroner’s office reported.

Detectives believe Sinclair was sitting in his garage watching television when the gunman entered and confronted him, sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Rouzan said.

“The suspect accused the victim of being a local gang member and then shot the victim,” Rouzan said.

There was no word if any witnesses were present, or how police learned of the killer’s statement.

The gunman then fled on foot. A description of the suspect was not released, nor was there any confirmation that the victim had been involved with a gang.

Anyone with information on the crime was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
