At least 50 Palmdale High School were stung by a swarm of bees and taken to hospitals for evaluation.
Paramedics were sent to the campus in the 2100 block of East Avenue R Tuesday, a Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
Fifty-six students were stung, according to the department.
The dispatcher said there were no reports of anyone going into shock.
Firefighters used water hoses in an effort to disperse the bees, which apparently became agitated when a hive was inadvertently disturbed.
A student at the scene told NBC4 another student threw an apple at a beehive, prompting the attack.
A portion of the campus was evacuated.
