A 4-year-old girl who nearly drowned in a backyard swimming pool in a desert community east of Palm springs remained hospitalized Wednesday.
Police said the girl was one of several children at a home in the 32600 block of Desert Vista Road in Cathedral City Tuesday evening. The children were being supervised by an adult, but the victim and another child slipped away from the group, through a rear door to the home’s pool, said Cmdr. Julio Luna.
Cathedral City police officers and firefighters were dispatched to the home at about 6:15 p.m. and took the girl, whose name was not released, to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. The child was later transferred to Loma Linda University Hospital, Luna said, but a condition report was unavailable.
