Riverside police need your help in their hunt for the killers who fatally injured a 28-year-old man when he attempted to come to the aid of a person being assaulted on a downtown street near the famed Mission Inn.
“We’re still looking to identify anyone involved in the fighting that took place,” Riverside police spokesman Ryan Railsback told City News Service. “We’re especially interested in any witnesses who may have cell phone video of any parts of the fight and when the victim was struck.”
Adam Valles of Bloomington died Thursday after almost a week on life support.
Valles’ wife, Johana Cordova Valles, described her late husband as a “peacemaker” who always tried to intervene and render assistance to people in distress.
She opened a GoFundMe account last week to help raise money to cover hospital bills, but has since changed that to a fundraiser to offset funeral expenses. The page is here: https://www.gofundme.com/49lcoeg .
“Adam is a great husband and an amazing father, he always put others needs before his own …,” she said on GoFundMe.
The father of two was with family members Aug. 12 when he exited the Hideaway Cafe, adjacent to the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa, about 2 a.m. and walked into a brawl, according to police.
Witnesses said that three to four people were attacking a lone man on the sidewalk, pummeling him.
Valles approached to see if he could assist the victim and was jumped from behind by one of the suspects, who pushed him to the ground. A second man then reportedly hit Valles as he tried to get up, causing him to strike his head on the pavement, resulting in massive trauma.
Passers-by captured part of the assault on their camera phones.
Anyone with information about the brawl and assault on Valles was asked to contact Riverside police at (951) 353-7213.
