An armed suspect eluded arrest Sunday morning following nearly four hours of what sheriff’s deputies thought was a barricade situation, authorities said.

The initial report at 10 p.m. Saturday was about a robbery on the 100 block of East Compton Boulevard, according to Kelvin Moody of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

A sheriff’s Crisis Negotiations Team was dispatched to try to get the suspect to surrender. Later, a Special Weapons Team also worked to get the suspect to come out, Moody said.

The SWAT team finally entered the residence and learned the suspect had left before deputies arrived.
