Was it a false alarm?
The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for a possible missing person in the water near Long Point on the eastern edge of Catalina Island, where a yellow kayak was found overturned, authorities said Thursday.
The search was suspended after no reports of distress were received related to the overturned kayak, and search efforts yielded no results, officials said.
At about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, officials received word of the overturned kayak, about 13 feet in length, in the water. The model had the words “Perception Sport” written on the side.
The Coast Guard dispatched a 45-foot vessel in response and a FMH-65 helicopter to search for a possible person in the water.
