A man driving a Vespa was killed in a crash Friday on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Inglewood.
The crash was reported at 1:46 a.m. near Florence Avenue, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman. The victim died at the scene, he said.
The driver, described only as male, was on a 2006 Vespa L200 motor scooter when he lost control and landed in the roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Two unknown vehicles were believed to have struck the driver, along with a 2000 Honda Accord LX driven by a 41-year-old motorist from Long Beach who stopped to cooperate with authorities, the CHP said.
The CHP issued a SigAlert, closing down all southbound lanes until just before 6 a.m.
Anyone with information helpful to the ongoing investigation was asked to call Officer Bennett at the West Los Angeles CHP Office at (310) 642-3939.
