A biker’s severed leg was finally found Wednesday hours after a hit-and-run vehicle hit the motorcyclist who was running across a freeway just before midnight.

“As he’s running across lanes, he’s struck by a vehicle, whose driver flees the scene,” CHP Officer Dan Olivas told City News Service. “The impact severed his leg.”

Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived moments later and stabilized the victim, who was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar in critical condition. The victim was on foot on the freeway because his motorcycle had broken down.

“They couldn’t initially find the sheared half of the leg,” Olivas said. “But after daylight, they were able to locate it and transport it to the hospital.”

It wasn’t immediately known whether doctors attempted to re-attach the limb.

The victim, whose name was not released, was hit about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on northbound I-15, near Central Avenue in the Riverside County town of Lake Elsinore, according to the CHP.

Olivas said the man’s bike broke down on the right shoulder of the freeway, he attempted to run across the northbound side, toward southbound lanes.

Olivas said a description of the hit-and-run vehicle should be available Wednesday evening or Thursday.
