Nearly 125 firefighters battled a major emergency fire that broke out in a row of commercial units in downtown Los Angeles.

At least 10 units were involved in the fire, which was reported about 6:35 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of South Los Angeles Street, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters were forced to go unit by unit and had to make numerous forced entries as they opened up the space above to locate the seat of the fire and stop its spread, Stewart said.

Los Angeles Street was closed between Sixth and Seventh streets while firefighters battled the blaze, she said.

No injuries were reported, according to Stewart, who said 124 firefighters responded to the scene.
