Police in Beaumont shot and killed a domestic violence suspect who allegedly pointed a gun at officers, sheriff’s deputies said Sunday.
Police were dispatched at 5 p.m. Saturday to a residence in the 1400 block of Playa Street in response to reports of a domestic violence incident involving a man armed with a handgun, sheriff’s Sgt. Christopher Willison said.

After officers entered the home, the suspect pointed a handgun at them, Willison said. Officers then fired on the suspect.
Paramedics were called to the scene, but the suspect ultimately died from his injuries, according to Willison.
The Beaumont Police Department requested that the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department conduct an independent investigation of the incident, Willison said.
They withheld the suspect’s name, citing the ongoing investigation.
The involved officers were not named and were placed on administrative leave, as is called for in Beaumont police procedures.
