A wrong way driver traveled westbound in the eastbound HOV lane of the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway early Monday but was stopped by California Highway Patrol officers before hitting any vehicles, authorities said.

The wrong way driver was observed at 2 a.m. on the Ronald Reagan Freeway east of Balboa Avenue, according to the CHP.

Motorists called CHP dispatch as the sedan moved slowly westbound in the eastbound HOV lane, the CHP said.

The driver stopped just west of Movie Lane at 2:20 a.m. and the car was removed from the freeway within 15 minutes, the CHP said.

The driver was arrested, said CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig. The driver’s age, gender and possible charges were not available.

There was no word if alcohol or drugs may have been involved.

A news videographer was westbound in a westbound lane and reported the wrong way motorist to the CHP.
