A pedestrian was struck Tuesday by a Metro train at the station at Seventh and Figueroa streets in downtown Los Angeles, authorities said.

Paramedics sent to the scene about 9:40 a.m. took the person, described only as a male, to a hospital with injuries of unknown severity, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

Service on the Red and Purple lines was disrupted, and buses were brought in to ferry passengers around the area. But about an hour afterward, the trains were back in service, with residual delays of up to 20 minutes expected through late morning, according to Metro.

The circumstances of the injury were under investigation.
