an elevated freeway interchange in Southern California
One of many freeway interchanges in Southern California.

A vehicle overturned Wednesday at the junction of Interstates 15 and 215 in Murrieta, but the driver walked away from the crash largely unscathed.

The wreck was reported about 1 p.m. and involved only one vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said the driver of the four-door sedan apparently lost control while transitioning to the southbound 215 from I-15, flipping over on the right shoulder of the connector ramp.

There were initial reports of smoke and flames, but there was no fire, according to the CHP.

The driver was able to extricate himself from the upside-down car.

Riverside County Fire Department paramedics assessed the victim, whose identity was not released, but he did not require hospitalization, according to reports from the scene.

Traffic was slow through the interchange, but no lanes were blocked.

The crash remained under investigation.
