A 48-year-old motorcyclist was killed when he lost control and fell from his vehicle, Hemet police said Thursday.

It happened at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, when Jose Sanchez Jr. of Hemet was traveling north on Warren Road and attempted to pass two vehicles in front of him by crossing into the southbound lane, according to Sgt. Dan Reinbolt.

Sanchez lost control of his motorcycle and began to skid, riding off the roadway where his motorcycle fell over onto the dirt shoulder between Esplanade and Cottonwood avenues, Reinbolt said.

He was not struck by any other vehicles, Reinbolt said.

Sanchez was hospitalized but later died from his injuries.

The drivers he was attempting to pass remained at the scene and spoke to investigators.
