A 30-year-old Perris woman was killed Thursday in a two- car crash at a Winchester intersection.
The fatality occurred about 6:10 a.m. at Simpson Road and Whittier Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Darren Meyer said the victim was driving her 1992 Toyota Camry northbound on Whittier and entered Simpson without yielding. He said Francis Brohamer, 43, of Murrieta was at the wheel of a 2010 Honda Accord headed eastbound on Simpson and had virtually no time to brake when the Camry crossed in front of him.
The Honda slammed into the driver’s side of the Toyota, Meyer said, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics a few minutes later. Her name was withheld pending family notification.
Brohamer suffered minor injuries but declined to be taken to a hospital for treatment, according to Riverside County fire officials.
The south half of Whittier that connects to Simpson is a “non-county, unimproved private road,” Meyer told City News Service, explaining why there is no stop sign at the intersection.
“We’re going to be investigating whether alcohol or drugs were involved, whether she was fatigued, whether there was a mechanical issue with the car, or maybe the lighting conditions had something to do with it,” he said.
