More than $10,000 in donations have been pledged as of Friday for a Riverside County sheriff’s deputy seriously wounded in the Las Vegas mass shooting.
Deputy Jason McMillan was one of two county sheriff’s deputies injured in the attack Sunday night at the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival. He’s receiving treatment for a gunshot wound.
McMillan’s aunt, Peggy Lunsford, started a GoFundMe fundraiser on Wednesday that, so far, has generated $10,750. The goal is $15,000.
“Jason (is) a loving father, fiance and great friend to all that know him,” Lunsford wrote. “Jason is improving, however, (he) is facing a long recovery. I … will be providing all donated funds to him to cover out of pocket expenses (for) the next few months of his recovery.”

The other deputy wounded in the massacre, identified only as a correctional officer, suffered an unspecified minor injury and was not hospitalized, sheriff’s officials said.
It’s unclear exactly how many county residents were among the almost 500 injured in the minutes-long sniper attack that Las Vegas police say was carried out by 64-year-old Stephen Paddock of Mesquite, Nevada, from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino.
More than a dozen of the 58 people slain were from Southern California. The following Riverside County residents were among them:
— Hannah Ahlers, 35, of Murrieta, was married with three children and remembered by her family as “beautiful inside and out and loved life and people”;
— Carrie Barnette, 34, recently moved to Riverside and worked at a cafe at Disney’s California Adventure theme park in Anaheim;
— Austin Davis, 29, a pipefitter from Riverside, was attending the concert with family and friends;
— Thomas Day Jr., 54, of Corona operated a contracting business inherited from his father and was an avid classic car collector;
— Angela Gomez, 20, of Riverside graduated from Polytechnic High School in 2015 and was enrolled in the nursing program at Riverside City College;
— Rocio Rocha Guillen, 40, of Eastvale, had recently given birth to her fourth child and was engaged to be married a second time; and
— Christopher “Chris” Roybal, 28, of Riverside spent a decade in the Navy and had recently finished a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
