A man was shot and killed by police in the city of San Fernando Sunday, and sheriff’s homicide investigators are handling the investigation.
San Fernando police officers were involved in some sort of incident at about 11 a.m. in the 100 block of Harding Avenue, according to sheriff’s Deputy Kimberly Alexander.

One man was hit by officers’ gunfire, Alexander said. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The man’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
There’s no word yet on what led up to the deadly confrontation with police or whether the dead man had a weapon. Police have also not said how many officers were involved or the names of the involved officers.
The homicide was also being investigated by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office shooting team of the Justice System Integrity Division.
The City of San Fernando is a small enclave surrounded by the City of Los Angeles at the northern end of the San Fernando Valley. Its 23,000-plus residents are served by a police department of about 35 officers, and it has a contract with the L.A. County Sheriff’s office for the larger agency to handle major incidents, according to the city.
