Using water drops and ground crews, firefighters knocked down a brushfire that charred about three-quarters of an acre of grass near the historic Griffith Observatory.
The fire in the 2800 block of Observatory Drive, east of the Griffith Observatory, was reported about 6:55 p.m., Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
The lack of wind and precise water drops aided the firefighting efforts in the steep terrain, Humphrey said.
The fire burned three-quarters of an acre in medium to heavy brush, Humphrey continued.
The department dispatched water-dropping helicopters and 77 ground personnel to the scene.
A knockdown of the fire was called at 7:37 p.m., he added. Some ground crews will remain at the scene to handle any remaining hotspots, Humphrey said.
No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged. The cause of the fire remained under active investigation, he said.
