Authorities Friday identified a man who was fatally stabbed during a fight involving several people in the Athens Village area west of Compton.

Deputies responded about 8:55 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a stabbing victim in the 100 block of West 132nd Street, the sheriff’s department reported. James Bills Jr., 57, died at a hospital, the coroner’s office reported. He was believed to have been a transient.

No arrests were reported and no weapon was recovered.  Anyone with information on the stabbing was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
