A man was killed and a woman was wounded in a shooting Saturday morning in the Jefferson Park area of South Los Angeles that police believe may have been gang-related.

The shots rang out at 12:45 a.m. in the area of Seventh Avenue and Montclair Street where some type of gathering was happening, said Lt. Jerry Davila of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southwest Division.

The man and woman had been arguing with a suspect just prior to the shooting, said Officer Drake Madison of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman, who suffered several gunshot wounds to her legs, was taken to a hospital in stable condition, according to Davila.

Officers were working to obtain a suspect description and were still at the scene Saturday morning investigating.

Detectives from the LAPD’s Southwest Station asked anyone with information regarding the shooting to call them at (213) 485-2582.
