A man was killed Friday afternoon in a multiple-vehicle collision on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Hawthorne, according to the California Highway Patrol.

It was not immediately clear how many vehicles were involved in the crash, which was reported at 1:07 p.m. just south of Rosecrans Avenue, according to the CHP.

The fatally injured man, believed to be 60 to 70 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP Officer Alex Rubio said.

One other person was taken to a trauma center, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
