A man was arrested Sunday in Riverside for beating a man unconscious in an intersection, leaving the victim to be hospitalized in critical condition.

Riverside police said they at 8:36 p.m. Saturday in the intersection of Aralia Drive and Gibson Street, in the Arlington South neighborhood, according to Officer Ryan Railsback.

Paramedics took the victim to a hospital, where he remained in critical condition, Railsback said.

Investigators later determined that the victim was injured during an altercation with Mark McMichael, 35, of Riverside.

McMichael was arrested early Sunday and was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of attempted murder and drug possession.

He remained behind bars in lieu of $1 million bail, according to jail records.

Details on what sparked the apparent assault were not immediately available.
