A cargo plane lost steering control while taking off at Burbank Airport Monday and ended up in the dirt on the side of a runway.
The Fairchild SA227 twin turboprop came to a stop on the west side of Runway 15 following the incident, which occurred shortly after 5 p.m., according to Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration.
An airport spokeswoman identified the plane’s operator as cargo carrier Ameriflight, but referred further questions to Ameriflight and the National Transportation Safety Board.
The plane was towed away and the runway soon reopened.
The pilot was the only person aboard and no injuries were reported, according to Gregor, who said the plane sustained minor damage.
