A wildfire broke out Thursday in Winchester, rapidly spreading amid strong Santa Ana winds, charring 100 acres within an hour.

The “Liberty Fire” was reported at 1:15 p.m. in the area of Liberty and Los Alamos roads, just northeast of Murrieta, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Along with county fire personnel, Murrieta, Corona and Hemet firefighters were sent to the location to battle the wind-whipped brusher.

No homes or other structures were under an immediate threat.

Close to 150 firefighters were trying to encircle the blaze, which was fanned by winds gusting to 30 mph.

There was no word regarding how it started.
