Authorities Wednesday identified a 46-year-old Glendale man who was killed when the car he was driving rear-ended a big rig on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Sun Valley.
Ara Karapetyan died at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 11:20 a.m. Monday north of Sunland Boulevard, according to the coroner’s office and the California Highway Patrol.
Karapetyan was driving a 1993 Toyota Camry that struck the rear of a 2006 Freightliner big rig, the CHP reported. The trucker, a 40-year-old Bakersfield man, was not injured.
It was not immediately known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
The slow lane of the freeway was closed for a time while an investigation was conducted.
