A hazardous materials team and more than 68 firefighters were working Saturday to identify and neutralize a green chemical that was leaking from a Sun Valley plating company, authorities said.
The leak was reported at 1:56 p.m. at 11321 West Goss St., said the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Margaret Stewart.
One family was evacuated from a home across the street, Stewart said.
The leak is up to 40 gallons, has a strong odor and has impacted the storm drain, she said.
“The HazMat squad made entry and located a leak, green in color and (is) working to further assess the situation and courses of action,” Stewart said. “Water and gas to the building have been shut off. No patients exhibiting signs or symptoms yet identified.”
Goss Street is shut down between San Fernando Road and Tujunga Avenue, she said.
