
A 77 year-old man died in a late-night fire in a seniors high-rise building in Koreatown, investigators said Tuesday.
Pom Sik Chong, of Los Angeles, was found dead inside unit in the seniors center, his according to Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter.
The fire was reported at 10:48 p.m. Monday in a third floor apartment at 616 South Normandie Ave., Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.
Firefighters quickly put out the flames, found Chong in the burned unit and pronounced him dead at the scene, Stewart said.
The cause of the fire was still to be determined, she said.
