Detectives acting on a tip raided what turned out to be a marijuana growing operation Thursday in a detached garage in El Monte, where a 58-year-old man was arrested.
The raid occurred about 2 p.m. in the 3100 block of Granada Avenue, according to El Monte Police Lt. Christopher Cano.

Confiscated at the scene were 250 growing plants and 80 pounds of dried grass with an estimated street value topping $200,000, the lieutenant said.
The arrested man was identified as El Monte resident Yongkun Liang, who was booked on suspicion of operating an illegal marijuana growing operation, possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana for sale, according to Cano.
“While California has legalized marijuana for recreational use, this type of growing operation in a residential community is illegal and will not be tolerated in the city of El Monte,” Cano said.
