Following a nearly five-hour search, police arrested a suspected gunman Thursday who ran from an SUV involved in a crash at the end of a chase in South Los Angeles.
The crash occurred just after 4 p.m. at the intersection of Western Avenue and 65th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The SUV ended up on its side and one person who was inside was arrested but a second, believed to be armed, ran off, according to LAPD Officer Tony Im and reports from the scene.
Police cordoned off the area and evacuated homes near a shed where the suspect was believed to be hiding.
The suspect was taken into custody about 9 p.m., police said, but details of his capture were not immediately available.
It was unclear if anyone was seriously injured in the crash.
