
An armed robbery suspect who holed up Sunday inside a residence in Long Beach was peacefully taken into custody after an 11-hour standoff.
The drama began about 4 a.m. on the zero block of Mountain View Street, just west of Long Beach Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The suspect was wanted in connection with armed robberies at least two San Gabriel Valley restaurants on Saturday and possibly a third, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported.
These included a failed robbery at a Hacienda Heights Denny’s Restaurant and a successful stickup at a Jack in the Box nearby the Denny’s 20 minutes later.
A sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau detail, as well as a crisis negotiation team, was dispatched to the scene, Deputy Guillermina Saldana of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said.
The SWAT team made entry into the residence shortly after 3 p.m.
Surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution.
The suspect’s name was not immediately disclosed by the sheriff’s department.
