A 2-year-old South Gate boy who was taken in a carjacking is safe and with his parents after being found in the abandoned vehicle in a Target parking lot, police said Tuesday.
Officers responded to a report of a vehicle that had just been stolen in the 10000 block of Rosewood Street around 7 p.m. Monday, said South Gate police Lt. Ignacio Patino.
When the boy’s father went to pick up his daughter at his mother-in- law’s home, someone jumped in the car and took off with the boy sleeping in the back, CBS2 reported.
About 15 minutes later, officers found the vehicle with the boy inside unharmed at 5700 Firestone Blvd. in the Target parking lot, Patino said.
Police think the car thief took the vehicle and realized the boy was inside before abandoning it.
There was no suspect description available.
