A Perris woman who allegedly shot at a family of six Thursday in a road rage incident south of Beaumont was in custody.

The unidentified suspect allegedly fired a single shot at another driver about 8 a.m. on state Route 79, north of Gilman Springs Road, in the unincorporated county area between Beaumont and San Jacinto, said California Highway Patrol Officer Darren Meyer.

The officer said as both vehicles were heading north on the highway, a Hemet man traveling with his wife and four children got into an argument with the woman, resulting in her brandishing a gun, then firing a shot at the family’s SUV.

None of the family members, nor their SUV, was struck in the shooting.

The man relayed the alleged shooter’s license plate to authorities, who later caught up with her on the westbound 60 freeway, near Day Street in Moreno Valley, Meyer said.

A gun was recovered during her arrest, and Meyer said investigators also found an expended pistol slug near the scene of the shooting.
