A Foothill Transit bus with no passengers aboard crashed into an office building Wednesday in West Covina, resulting in no injuries but leaving the structure in need of inspection to determine if it would be safe to occupy.

No pedestrians or other vehicles were involved in the 9:20 a.m. crash at Sunset and Cameron avenues, according to police.

The bus was eastbound on Cameron Avenue when the driver began turning left to go north on Sunset Avenue and “lost control of the bus, which continued to make a left turn, crossing over the center divider and the southbound lanes of Sunset Avenue,” according to a West Covina police statement.

The bus then hit the building at 767 S. Sunset Ave., which houses several offices that were occupied at the time.

The crash “caused significant structure damage, forcing the evacuation of those people in the offices directly involved,” police said.

Inspectors were working Wednesday afternoon to assess the extent of the damage to the structure, and all southbound lanes of Sunset Avenue between West Covina Parkway and Cameron Avenue remained closed.
