A man who fired shots and then barricaded himself inside a house in the Norwalk area Sunday was taken into custody by the sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau.

The drama which began about 12:40 p.m. in the 11900 block of Cheshire Street ended about 6:20 p.m., Deputy Kim Alexander said.

Members of the SEB used “diversionary tactics” and then took the man into custody after entering the house, Alexander said. According to a tweet from the SEB those diversionary tactics involved the use of tear gas. The suspect was uninjured during the takedown, Alexander said.

“Deputies initially responded to a shots fired call,” Alexander said.

Deputies evacuated the surrounding houses, Alexander said. No injuries occurred during the barricade situation, she said.
