Authorities Monday released the name of a 22-year-old man who died when his brother lost control of a sedan that overturned on the Riverside (91) Freeway and ended up in a ditch.
Nicholas Duarte of Grand Terrace died at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Riverside less than an hour after the late Sunday afternoon crash on the eastbound 91 at Main Street.
Officer Dan Olivas said the victim was one of three passengers riding with his brother, 20-year-old Federico Duarte, who was at the wheel of a 2008 Chrysler sedan that was in the slow lane when it veered right and crossed over the shoulder near the northbound Interstate 15 transition ramp about 4:20 p.m..
“The vehicle collided with a guardrail and continued along the concrete wall until it traveled off the edge of an embankment,” he said. “The vehicle’s front end collided with the ground and overturned onto its roof. “
All occupants were injured, with another relative also suffering major trauma, according to Olivas, who said the other victims were in stable condition.
The crash remains under investigation.
