Shots were fired inside the Moreno Valley Mall Thursday, triggering a lockdown and search of the sprawling shopping center, but nobody was injured.

Authorities received multiple calls about shots being fired in the mall about 11:40 a.m., according to Deputy Mike Vasquez. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced via a Twitter posting that the mall at 22500 Town Circle was being thoroughly searched, and that there was no active shooter.

The mall reopened about 1 p.m., though a portion of the center was cordoned off due to the shooting investigation.

“No victims located,” the RCSD tweeted after deputies secured the complex.

Witnesses told the Press-Enterprise that the gunfire stemmed from a fight that broke out between at least three people near the Kay Jewelers and Victoria’s Secret stores on the lower level in the northern portion of the mall, but there was no word on whether any arrests were made.
