What investigators believe was an ongoing dispute led a man to shoot a woman in the chest Friday afternoon in South Los Angeles.

It was unclear if the woman was the intended target of the shooting, which was reported about 2 p.m. near the intersection of Western Avenue and 58th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A watch commander at the LAPD’s 77th Street Station said the shooting “was likely related to an ongoing dispute.”

The woman, who is about 30 years old, was shot near a marijuana dispensary, but police said the violence was not directly related to the business. She was taken to a hospital, where she was in critical but stable condition about six hours after the shooting, according to LAPD Sgt. Thomas Bojorquez.

The suspect, a man in his 50s, was last seen leaving the area in a Nissan Altima.
