An impaired driver crashed into a Pomona home, rendering the structure unsafe, authorities said Wednesday.

Officers were dispatched around 9:10 p.m. Tuesday to 1027 Casa Vista Drive where a vehicle had crashed into the garage of a home, said Pomona police Cpl. Kristian Gutierrez.

The home’s residents reported to a Pomona police dispatcher that they heard a loud traffic collision near the area of Orange Grove Avenue and Casa Vista Drive.

“They went outside to see if anyone was hurt and there was no sign of a traffic collision,” Gutierrez said. “It was not until the residents walked to the side of the house, when they saw that a pickup truck had gone through their wooden fence and into the garage.”

The driver, identified as 22-year-old Erick Lopez-Reyes of Pomona, was not hurt and remained at the scene.

Lopez-Reyes displayed signs of being under the influence of alcohol and admitted to being on his phone while he was driving, Gutierrez said. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Due to the structural damage done to the garage, a member of the Pomona Building and Safety Division responded to the scene and red-tagged the home, Gutierrez said. The truck was left at the location until arrangements are made to remove it.
