Three people were injured, one critically, in a two-car collision in Downey described as “horrific,” authorities said Tuesday.

The crash was reported at 10:25 p.m. Monday at Imperial Highway and Downey Avenue, an operator at Downey Fire Department dispatch told City News Service.

A critically injured man was taken to PIH Health Hospital Downey while receiving CPR, Downey Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott Devereux said. A seriously injured man and a woman were taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood. All three had traumatic injuries, Devereux said, describing the crash as “horrific.”

Broadcast video from the scene showed both cars on the sidewalk with one apparently wrapped around a light pole.
