Murder and attempted murder charges were filed Monday against a Los Angeles County resident accused of killing a man and injuring a woman during a shooting in Desert Hot Springs last month.

Anthony Webb, 38, of San Pedro, is suspected in the Feb. 14 slaying of 49-year-old Desert Hot Springs resident Joseph Slaten, who was found shot in a parked car at about 5:30 p.m. near a home in the 12500 block of Avenida Alta Loma.

Slaten died at the scene, while an unidentified woman inside the car was also shot. She was hospitalized with what police described as non-life threatening gunshot wounds. Webb’s connection, if any, to the victims was not disclosed.

Webb was arrested last Thursday at his San Pedro home after allegedly barricading himself inside the residence at around 6 a.m.

After the Riverside County Gang Impact Team attempted to arrest him at the home in the 1200 block of West Third Street, Los Angeles police called in a SWAT team, which took him into custody without further incident at about 9:15 a.m., Riverside County DA’s spokesman John Hall said.

Webb, who’s being held without bail, is slated to appear on the charges Monday afternoon.
