A student was arrested Thursday for allegedly making criminal threats against Junipero Serra High School in Gardena and firearms and a cache of ammunition were seized at his home.
Personnel at the school at 14830 Van Ness Ave. contacted police about a threat made on social media, according to the Gardena Police Department.
“Investigators identified a current student who had posted a threatening message earlier in the week,” according to a police statement. “Today, there was a second post made indicating a more specific threat of violence that would take place on campus.”
A school resource officer and detectives went to the student’s home and ended up making an arrest on suspicion of making criminal threats and being a juvenile in possession of a firearm, while seizing several firearms and what police described as “a cache of ammunition,” police said.
Junipero Serra High School is operated by the Department of Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
