A motorist in his 40s was killed Sunday when his car smashed into a gate in the industrial/residential area east of downtown Los Angeles.
The motorist was going north on Lawrence Street when he struck a gate, attached to a building that fronts the 700 block of South Alameda Street about 6:30 a.m., said Office Norma Eisenman of the LAPD‘s Media Relations Section.

The motorist was the only person inside his vehicle, and was pronounced dead at the scene, Eisenman said.
There was no other immediate information.
