A South Los Angeles street vendor was severely beaten when he and several other vendors were getting ready to begin their day’s work, according to news media reports.
Pedro Reyes, 54, was hospitalized with facial fractures, a broken jaw, a cut throat and several teeth knocked out, relatives told broadcast reporters Sunday.
Reyes and the other vendors were attacked in the morning at San Pedro and 31st Street by the occupants who got out of two vehicles and demanded money. Reyes was beaten despite having given the suspects his money. Two other vendors suffered minor injuries.
Reyes’ family has set up a GoFundMe page to assist the man who works six days a week as a roofer and sells peanuts and fruit on Sundays.
