A 36-year-old man was convicted Thursday of attacking five women in as many hours in Anaheim and Garden Grove four years ago.

Ulises Omar De La Torre of Buena Park was convicted of attempted murder, kidnapping to commit a sex offense, assault with the intent to commit a sex offense, torture, burglary and assault. Jurors also found true sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury.

The attacks started about 5:15 p.m., Jan. 16, 2014, when De La Torre punched a woman in the back of the head and tried to pull her pants down in Garden Grove as she walked home from work at McDonald’s.

De La Torre then broke into the home of a second woman and stabbed her as she arrived home, according to Deputy District Attorney Bobby Taghavi. When the woman’s boyfriend walked in, he ran away, Taghavi said.

Two other victims were headed to a room in an Anaheim hotel when he tried to force his way in, Taghavi said. He stabbed the women as they shouted for help and managed to get away, Taghavi said.

The women suffered head, face and arm wounds, he said.

About 10:30 p.m. that night, De La Torre attacked a jogger in Garden Grove, punching her in the face and knocking her down as he tugged at her clothes, Taghavi said. De La Torre ran away as the woman screamed for help, Taghavi said.
